Obama - Is he For or Against Cheaper Prescription Drugs?
Obama promised a new medical bill would make affordable health care available to all Americans. This of course should include low-cost prescription drugs. But just what is going to happen when this bill is implemented? Does anyone really know? There are a few facts we can look at. When Obama was Senator of Illinois, he voted for legalizing the import of prescription drugs from Canada. When campaigning for president, Obama supported legalizing drug imports from Canada. That sounds good, right? Hold on. There’s more information. But for now, you can buy low-priced medications at online pharmacies.
The pharmaceutical industry is expecting to profit in record numbers as a result of the new Health Care Bill. This is because tens of millions of uninsured Americans will be required to sign up for health care under the new bill. Because of the stipulations of the bill, the insured will have to purchase drugs under the rules of federal subsidies and mandatory coverage. This means that the underlying cost of the new healthcare system will not be paid for by the big drug companies, but by the insured, who are already suffering from a depressed economy.
Some senators have introduced bills to Congress that would allow Americans to purchase safe name-brand drugs abroad. These bills have currently not had enough votes to pass. The capability to import low-cost drugs exists, but enough U.S. leaders have chosen to side with the big drug industry instead of representing the concerns of U.S. consumers. For a specific example, Lipitor, a drug that helps lower high cholesterol in patients, costs up to three times more in the United States than in other countries. You still have a choice right now to purchase your medicines from online pharmacies.
It seems fairly apparent that Obama is actually restricting U.S. citizen’s options in purchasing pharmaceutical drugs. So what can one do? Talk to your friends and family. Contact your senators and congressmen. Use the freedom you have now to buy your medicines from online pharmacies. Many senators are fighting for American consumers’ rights to acquire safe, cheap medicines. They are introducing legislation that will protect U.S. citizens, like laws against drug counterfeiting. Find out who these senators and congressmen are, and vote for them!
